Better Blackstone

An emerging association of diverse people and organizations who are committed to seeing new investment and revitalization of the Blackstone corridor. We want Blackstone to be a successful place for expanding and starting businesses, safe and clean neighborhoods, mixed-use developments, rapid transit systems, and convenient services, recreation, and entertainment that meet everyday needs. Better Blackstone members are leaders from businesses, institutions, and neighborhoods that are gathering throughout 2015 to build a shared vision and strong partnerships in order to actively build a Better Blackstone together.

Why Blackstone?

Blacksone is the old Highway 41

Blackstone is the old Highway 41 that cars and trucks took through central Fresno to Yosemite and the coast before Freeway 41 was built in 1980s.

The launch corridor for Bus Rapid Transit

Blackstone Avenue (along with Ventura-Kings Canyon Blvd) will be the launch corridor for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in Fresno, slated to begin operations in early 2017.

Priority Area for Development Incentives

As a BRT Corridor and designated mixed-use area in the recently adopted City of Fresno 2035 General Plan, Blackstone is a ‘Priority Area for Development Incentives’ along with downtown, established neighborhoods, and south Fresno industry and employment areas.

A unique link across district lines

The Blackstone Corridor area uniquely links six of the seven Fresno City Council Districts (Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7), presenting an opportunity for unified vision, decision-making, action, and results.

A critical path for Fresno's future

All told, the Blackstone Corridor area has the potential to help define or defeat the achievement of economic, environmental and social health and prosperity for Fresno.
